JORHAT, Feb 29: Jorhat District Congress president, Putul Buragohain, on Thursday asserted that the departure of Rana Goswami would not adversely impact the party’s standing in Jorhat.
Speaking to reporters at the Congress Bhawan, Buragohain emphasised the high morale among party workers and various affiliated wings, including youth, students, women, and Seva Dal.
Addressing concerns about potential defections, Buragohain reassured that he had been receiving calls from party members and leaders across the district reaffirming their loyalty to the party’s cause.
Further, as a former Zila Parishad chairman, Buragohain underscored the enduring strength of the 130-year-old party, noting that the departure of one individual would not significantly alter its trajectory.
Expressing confidence in his leadership role during this critical period, Buragohain pledged to fortify the party’s position in the days ahead.
“People are observant and discerning, capable of distinguishing right from wrong,” he remarked.
Buragohain further disclosed that a team from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) would arrive from Guwahati on Friday to assess the situation, following which the Congress would launch an intensive campaign across constituencies to highlight government shortcomings.
Asserting his commitment to duty, Buragohain affirmed, “I will not shy away from my responsibilities.”
Meanwhile, jubilant party workers and leaders celebrated outside the party office, symbolising a sense of relief at Goswami’s departure. Workers expressed satisfaction at the prospect of operating without the perceived constraints imposed by Goswami, whom they accused of stifling the rise of other leaders within the party.
