NAGAON, Jan 24: In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Nagaon police destroyed drugs worth over Rs 19 crore in a special programme at the campus of 9th Assam Police Battalion Headquarters located at Barhampur on Friday.
As per sources, the destroyed drugs included 7.38 kg of heroin, 160.55 kg of ganja, 4105 numbers of cough syrup bottles, and 75341 tablets related to other narcotics.
The programme was carried out by the Nagaon police, led by superintendent of police Swapnanil Deka, with the assistance of the 9th Assam Police Battalion.
The destroyed drugs were seized by Nagaon police at various locations under several police stations and railway police in the district over the past year.
The Nagaon police have registered over 200 cases related to narcotics in the past year and have appealed to the public to cooperate in their efforts to curb the menace of drugs in the district.
