Flood situation improves in Assam

GUWAHATI, Sept 3: The flood situation in Assam has shown significant improvement, according to a bulletin from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Sunday. The number of affected people has decreased from 2,42,515 to 1,22,093.

Darrang district continues to have the highest number of affected individuals at 60,650, followed by Golaghat with 45,395. Currently, 27 revenue circles and 583 villages are submerged, affecting 8,592.05 hectares of agricultural land.

Twelve districts are still grappling with floodwaters. These districts include Barpeta, Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Nagaon, and Sivasagar.

In response to the crisis, the administrations of these affected districts have set up 24 relief camps, where 1,331 people are currently taking shelter. Additionally, 17 relief distribution centers are operational in the affected regions.

On Sunday, seven roads were damaged due to floodwaters in Darrang, and damage to other infrastructure was reported in Darrang and Morigaon. Massive erosions were also reported from Bongaigaon, Dhubri, and Tinsukia.

Fortunately, there were no reports of fatalities on Sunday, providing some relief amid the ongoing flood situation.
