MORIGAON, Aug 18: In a significant stride towards wildlife conservation, a vigilant forest team, led by range forest officer Nayan Jyoti Das from Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, apprehended a notorious poacher, Asmot Ali (62), at Tengaguri in Laharighat, Morigaon district. Acting swiftly on reliable intelligence, the team comprising eight dedicated forest personnel located the suspect around 6 am on Friday.
The culprit, Asmot Ali, hailing from Tengaguri in Laharighat revenue circle and the son of Late Mobarak Hussain, was found in possession of an elephant ivory. The forest personnel promptly confiscated the illicit item. Following the apprehension, Asmot Ali was taken to the Range Office and handed over to the custody of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.
Under questioning, Asmot Ali confessed to his involvement in the illegal trade and activities related to wildlife. He was taken into custody under the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. According to statements provided by range officer Nayan Jyoti Das, the accused admitted to having sold various animal articles for personal financial gain.
