IMFL Worth Rs 17 Lakh Seized

BOKAJAN, March 30: The police of Borpathar police station seized a large quantity of IMFL at a naka checking along NH-39, Khakarajan on Thursday.

“A naka checking was set-up at NH-39 Khakarajan around 10:30 am,” police reports stated. The police intercepted an LP truck bearing registration number NL 01 AC 4665 travelling from Guwahati to Dimapur and recovered 749 cartons of IMFL manufactured in Arunachal Pradesh. These IMFL were hidden underneath potato bags. The driver of the truck, namely Asarif Roy was apprehended during the police checking. The seized IMFL along with the truck and its driver were brought to Borpathar police station, multiple sources stated.

“The market value will be around Rs 17 lakh,” Police said.

Staff from Bokajan excise department Paban Deori, Pranjal Sarma, Alberto Rongpi and Longbi Hanse reached the spot to seize the seized items.

Meanwhile, the police of Borpathar police station managed to apprehend a regular supplier of IMFL from Silonijan area on Wednesday last.

Previously on March 25, police seized 774 cartons of IMFL from a cement loaded truck at Borpathar naka checking. Following the seizure, police had tried to find out the linkman involved in the movement of IMFL on NH-39 route and in such an attempt, managed to apprehend one Abdesh Choudhury, age 30 years from Silonijan Nepali Basti. Abdesh, who happens to be the son of Makhan Choudhury, had been involved in the movement of IMFL for a long time, the police said.

The apprehended person is under police custody at Borpathar police station. The case at Borpathar Police Station has been registered under case No.17/23 US 120 (B) 379, 411, IPC RW 53 (1) A 63 of Assam Excise Act has been registered against Choudhury.
