Kamsing Rongpi Elected As President Of Karbi Lammet Amei

DIPHU, Dec 9: Kamsing Rongpi was elected as the president of Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) and Karon Hansepi has retained the post of vice president for the second time, while Ramsing Phangcho won the other vice president’s post.

With this development, there are two vice presidents in the KLA.

Election to the post of president and two vice presidents for the term 2024 to 2026 of KLA, Karbi literary body was held here at KLA central committee office near Lumding road on Saturday.

The candidates for the post of president were former general secretary Kamsing Hanse, incumbent president Barim Ingti and Dhonsing Terang.

All the 65 office bearers of the central committee, presidents and secretaries from 10 regional committees and presidents and secretaries of 95 branch offices are eligible for voting.

Former general secretary Rongpi won the post of president with a difference of 85 votes against incumbent president Barim Ingti. Rongpi got 116 votes while Ingti got 85 votes. For the post of first vice president Karon Hansepi has retained the post for the second time, while for the post of second vice president was won by Ramsing Phangcho.

Adviser, KLA Liladhar Teron informed the media that the present term will expire in January 2024.

The KLA constitution election has to be conducted two months before the expiry of the term. Accordingly, the election was held.

The post of general secretary will be selected at the annual conference in 2024. The election was conducted by Sar-et Hanse, Jit Kumar Rongpi and Nondoram Teron.
