DIPHU, April 29: The Karbi Students Association (KSA Jameson Timung) has filed an FIR against Munna Chauhan in the Diphu Police Station for insulting the Karbi tribe and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) authority in a video in his Facebook page.
In a post on February 15 incident, where KSA members were attacked by a mob at Kheroni in West Karbi Anglong while demanding the eviction of encroachers from PGR/VGR land, Chauhan in a video on Facebook allegedly insulted the Karbi tribe, their culture and the KAAC authority.
In the video Chauhan taking on the Karbi community said, “The Karbi Anglong district was formed in 1976. Before that, where did Karbis come from? Have they not migrated from via Chin (China)? Is Karbi Anglong not part of India?”
In another video Chauhan purportedly said, “Before Karbis didn’t know to wear clothes. They don’t know how to cook. Biharis have taught them cooking. If Bihari brothers are chased out then who will consume your liquor (rice brew). It is our Bihari brothers who are consuming the rice brew of the Karbis. But they don’t have the license for making liquor. The KAAC cannot evict our Bihari brothers from PGR/VGR.”
The FIR stated that Munna Chauhan while exploiting the freedom of speech and expression, has persistently made provocative videos and scathing remarks against the Karbi community and KAAC. His remark has deliberately insulted Karbi sentiment and culture and has been trying to communalise the issue of PGR/VGR eviction.
The KSA in their FIR has demanded the law and order authority to book the person as per the Information Technology Act 2000 and Schedule Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) act 1989. It has become essential to apprehend Munna Chauhan to avoid communal disharmony.
After submitting the FIR at the Diphu Police Station the KSA vice president, Moniram Teron said the KSA and Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) were against issuance of land pattas to those living in PGR/VGR land and to carry out eviction drives.
“As Chauhan’s disrespectful comments are likely to disturb the communal harmony in the region he should be arrested as per the law of the land,” Teron said.
