TEZPUR, Dec 11: The Polio vaccination campaign was initiated at Kanaklata Civil Hospital in Tezpur, led by ADC Health, Sonitpur District, Twahir Alam, under the guidance of the Joint Director of Health Services, Sonitpur. Despite India being declared polio-free, neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan still face challenges. To prevent the potential spread, a three-day Polio vaccination campaign is underway nationwide from December 10 to 12.
ADC Twahir Alam emphasised the importance of eradicating polio for the well-being and future of today’s children. There are a total of 1,48,978 children under the age of 5 in the primary health centers of Sonitpur, and they are the target group for vaccination during this campaign.
In his statement, Twahir Alam urged the community to collaborate and support the campaign. Health workers will not only conduct door-to-door visits but also visit public places, bus stops, markets, schools, etc., to ensure maximum coverage of Polio vaccine for children.
The program witnessed the presence and remarks from joint director Health Services Dr Jiauddin Ahmed, Dr Biman Sarmah, Dr Tutumani Handique, and Rekha Devi, who emphasised the significance of the campaign in maintaining the polio-free status in India.
