HOJAI, June 11: In a commendable effort to motivate students, the 31 no Singari Basti gaon panchayat organised a full-day felicitation programme on Friday at Singari Basti in Hojai. The event was graced by Shiladitya Dev, former MLA, as the chief guest, with Ramakrishna Ghosh, local legislator, attending as the guest of honour. Other esteemed guests in attendance included Romabala Devi, president of Hojai Zila Parishad; Anup Deb, district president of BJP; Tapan Kar, principal of Sankardev Junior College; Arjun Mazumdar, former district president of BJP; Monjit Saikia; Utpal Phukan, associate lecturer at Rabindranath Tagore University, and many others. Ratan Chauhan, vice president of Singari Basti gaon panchayat, chaired the programme, while Rahul Dey, councillor of Singari Basti gaon panchayat, skillfully moderated the proceedings.
To commence the event, all the distinguished guests were felicitated with traditional Assamese phulam gamosa, a photo of Bharat Mata, a citation, a mini-statue of a rhinoceros, and handcrafted bouquets by Hardan Biswas. Following this, approximately 180 students who successfully cleared the High School Leaving Certificate Examination and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council Examination-2023 from Singari Basti and nearby areas were felicitated. Notably, several social activists and media persons were also honoured for their significant contributions in their respective fields.
Addressing the esteemed gathering, Shiladitya Dev emphasised, “Education is a lifelong process, and one should never cease learning. Curiosity to learn should always prevail.” He further emphasised that knowledge can be acquired from any source; the key lies in having the intention to learn.
MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh urged students to introspect themselves, as self-reflection is the gateway to progress and excel in life. He highlighted that these examinations serve as the first stepping stone, and opportunities await the students. However, to achieve success, they need to remain focused, consistent, punctual, and dedicated in their pursuits.
Each guest commended the efforts of the 31 no Singari Basti gaon panchayat in organising the felicitation programme meticulously.
It is worth mentioning that Zilik Shill, who brought laurels to Hojai by securing the second position in the Commerce stream in Assam, received special recognition. The programme also featured captivating cultural dance performances by various ethnic groups, including Dimasa, Bengali, Manipuri, and others, leaving the audience mesmerised.
