GUWAHATI, Sept 25: Two new literary awards have been
instituted for the writers of Arunachyal Pradesh, Arunachal
Pradesh Literary Society (APLS), led by its president, Sahitya
Akademi and Padma Shri awardee Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, said.
The first award “Tagang Taki Literary Award”, named after the
first writer from Arunachal Pradesh (erstwhile NEFA) to
immortalize his literary contributions, will be given to the best
book published within the previous three years.
The second one “APS Yuva Puraskar” will be given to a writer
below the age of 35 years. It will be awarded annually, an APLS
official said on Monday.
The decision to introduce the two literary awards was taken
during the General Council meeting of the apex literary body
held here under the chairmanship of APLS president YD
Thongchi on Saturday last.
The Council also decided to enhance the award money of the
Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award, from existing Rs 10,000
to Rs 25,000. The Lummer Dai award is conferred every year on
June 1, the birthday of the late novelist.
