Assam: Guwahati Police bust burglary gang, unravel timeline of 5-year crime spree

Guwahati, May 11: In a significant stride forward, the Guwahati police, stationed in Hatigaon, have successfully captured a notorious burglary syndicate suspected of orchestrating a series of thefts afflicting the locality.

The apprehension follows an exhaustive probe into recent burglary occurrences spanning the jurisdiction of Hatigaon PS and its environs.

The key suspect, known as Chiraj Ali, aged 42 and originating from Kasuapathar, Mukalmua in the Nalbari district of Assam, has been implicated in multiple recent burglary cases. Intelligence gleaned during the investigation strongly implicated him in a burglary incident documented under Hatigaon PS Case No-87/24 U/S 457/380 IPC, relating to a theft perpetrated at House No- 06, Sanjog Path, Ajanta Path, Emma Enisha Apartment, Flat No. 1A, PS- Hatigaon, Kamrup (Metro).

Responding promptly to gathered leads, a specialized team from the Hatigaon Police Station undertook a rigorous search operation aimed at capturing Chiraj Ali and his cohorts.

On May 5, 2024, the team successfully apprehended Chiraj Ali in the vicinity of Hatigaon Jame Masjid, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation. Subsequent interrogation sessions revealed Chiraj Ali’s confession regarding his involvement in the aforementioned burglary, along with additional admissions of participation in similar criminal activities across Guwahati.

Furthermore, he disclosed pertinent information regarding his associates and the individuals involved in receiving stolen goods.
