DIBRUGARH, July 28: In a show of discontent, hundreds of Congress members staged a sit-in demonstration at Rajiv Bhavan in Dibrugarh, voicing their opposition to the ever-increasing prices of essential commodities in the state.

Led by senior Congress leader Paban Singh Ghatowar, the party members raised slogans denouncing the BJP government for its inability to control the steep rise in prices of essential goods. Former Congress MLA Raju Sahu and other senior leaders actively participated in the demonstration. The protesters urged the central government to promptly intervene and take measures to curb the inflationary trend.

“The BJP has utterly failed to control the skyrocketing prices of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders, medicines, baby food, and other essential commodities. The government seems indifferent to the hardships faced by the common man. The cost of vegetables and other daily necessities has gone beyond the reach of ordinary citizens. The government remains silent on the matter. We demand immediate action from the government to tackle this spiralling price surge. Interestingly, when the Congress was in power, the BJP was vocal in its protests against price hikes. But now, when prices have more than doubled, they seem to have no answers. Their policies have adversely impacted the middle and lower classes,” expressed a protesting Congress leader.

The demonstration highlights the mounting public concern over the surging cost of living and calls for swift measures to alleviate the burden on the citizens.
