Haflong celebrates World Tourism Day, showcasing Culinary Heritage and Cultural Diversity

GUWAHATI, Sept 28: World Tourism Day was celebrated at the Cultural Institute hall in Haflong on Friday, organized by the Haflong Tourism Management Committee in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, NCHAC. The event began with the inauguration of a Food Hut by Joshringdao Phonglo, Chairman of Dima Hasao Tourism, highlighting the district’s rich culinary heritage and local delicacies.

Chief Guest Smt Probita Johori, executive member of DHAC, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the various initiatives taken under the leadership of Debolal Gorlosa to promote tourism in the region. She cited Umrangso and its surrounding areas as emerging tourism hotspots, underscoring the importance of sustainable tourism practices and community involvement in preserving the natural and cultural heritage of Dima Hasao.

Nirmendu Kemprai, deputy director of the department of tourism, spoke on the critical role of local participation in ensuring sustainable growth in the tourism sector. He stressed the need for cleanliness and a welcoming attitude toward tourists to enhance their experience.

The celebration featured vibrant cultural performances, exhibitions, and interactive sessions. Local artisans and entrepreneurs showcased their crafts and products at various food stalls, allowing attendees to engage with tourism experts and learn about the latest trends and opportunities in the industry. Prizes were awarded for literary competitions, alongside a special edition for photography and videography contests.

The cultural evening included performances from dance troupes representing the Dimasa, Naga, Gorkha, Kuki, and other communities, complemented by musical acts that added to the festive atmosphere.

The Haflong Tourism Management Committee and the Department of Tourism expressed their gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for making the event a grand success. They reiterated their commitment to working collaboratively to establish Dima Hasao as a premier tourist destination, showcasing the region’s unique offerings to a broader audience.
