GUWAHATI, Sept 10: The Assam Legislative Assembly is set to convene its autumn session starting Monday.
Notably, this session will mark the first time the Assembly meets in the newly constructed Assam Assembly Building.
The session will be a stormy one as the opposition is planning to raise several pertinent issues during the five-day session.
Parliamentary affairs minister, Pijush Hazarika, addressed the media on Sunday and assured the public that the autumn session would proceed seamlessly in the newly equipped facility. A total of approximately 24 Bills are expected to be presented during this session.
Hazarika extended an appeal to all political parties to cooperate in ensuring the smooth conduct of the session and urged the opposition parties to work in harmony with the government.
He detailed, “Nearly 23-24 bills will be tabled. Several colleges have been converted or upgraded to universities. One Panchayati Raj bill will also be tabled, along with several other bills from various departments. The Assembly session will run both in the morning and evening shifts between September 14 and 15. We have decided to pass the bills after thorough discussions in the all-party meeting.”
Furthermore, the minister promised to allocate time for opposition members to voice their concerns. He emphasized the importance of various bills, including the Panchayati Raj Amendment Bill and the conversion of several colleges into universities, which are scheduled to be presented during this session. However, he acknowledged that the passage of these bills might require more than two days of discussion.
