KOKRAJHAR, April 28: The second edition of the Rongjali Bwisagu festival brought a vibrant display of cultural integration to Saralpara, along the India-Bhutan border in Kokrajhar district, on Sunday.

Organised jointly by the Departments of Tourism and Cultural Affairs under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government, the celebration fostered unity and joy among border communities.

The picturesque Saralpara picnic spot came alive with colourful traditional performances, showcasing folk dances and songs representing the diverse cultural tapestry of the region—including Bodo, Rabha, Garo, Adivasi, Gorkha, and Koch Rajbongshi communities.

Adding international flavour to the event, an eight-member delegation from Bhutan, led by Bhutan India Friendship Association (BIFA) Secretary General Dawa Penjor, participated in the festivities. Penjor praised the BTR government for organizing such a meaningful cultural exchange and expressed hope that events like Rongjali Bwisagu would continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship between India and Bhutan.

“The celebration in the serene surroundings of Saralpara stands as a powerful example of unity and harmony among the people of both nations,” he said.

On a more somber note, Penjor strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 28 civilians were reportedly killed. He stated, “Such heinous acts go against the values of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent India. Bhutan is a peace-loving country and firmly opposes all forms of extremism.” He emphasized that Bhutan’s longstanding relationship with India is rooted in mutual respect and shared cultural values.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including local MLA Lawrence Islary, UPPL leader Kampa Borgoyary, BTC Executive Members Daobaisa Boro and Saikhong Basumatary, MCLA Reoreoa Narzihary, among others.

The Rongjali Bwisagu celebration served as a powerful reminder of the enduring ties between India and Bhutan, highlighting how cultural exchange and community events can foster peace and regional solidarity.
