NAGAON, May 21: The NEEPCO has opened seven gates of the Khandong Dam in Dima Hasao, leading to a rise in the water level of the Kopili River.
The gates were opened due to the increased water level in the reservoir of the Kapili Hydro Power Station caused by incessant rains over couple of days. The water level is expected to continue rising, especially with ongoing rainfall in Dima Hasao and Meghalaya.
The rise in water level of the Kapili river has raised concerns about potential flooding in areas along the Kapili river, including Kampur, Bokulguri, Padumoni, Koloni, Jamunamukh, Kachua, and others.
The Nagaon district administration has issued an alert, urging people living along the Kopili river to remain cautious. Although the rain has subsided in Kampur, the water level in the Kopili river continues to rise.
According to sources from the Kopili Hydro Power Project, the seven gates of the Khandong Dam are open, and the water flow is currently natural.
