HOJAI, May 23: The Department of Political Science at Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, organised a commemorative seminar on Friday titled “Samvidhan Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Celebrating 75 Years of the Indian Constitution”. The event was part of the ongoing nationwide celebration of the Constitution’s 75th anniversary and aimed at highlighting its enduring legacy and relevance.
The seminar was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of the University, followed by the rendition of the State Anthem. In his inaugural remarks, Prof. Dutta Choudhury paid tribute to the Constitution’s framers and lauded the document’s resilience. “The Constitution of India has emerged as the most vibrant document governing a nation as vast and diverse as ours. It stands as a guarantee of life and security for our 1.5 billion citizens,” he said. “Over the past 75 years, it has matured into an unparalleled guiding force that will continue to lead us through the centuries ahead.”

The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Prem Sagar Prasad, Head of the Department of Political Science, who elaborated on the seminar’s objectives. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Dijamoni Sarmah of the university, offering a foundational perspective for the deliberations that followed.
Seven research scholars presented papers during the technical session, which explored various dimensions of the Indian Constitution. The session was chaired by Dr. P.S. Prasad, and co-chaired by Dr. Akshayjyoti Sarma, Associate Professor in the department. The presentations prompted vibrant discussions and intellectual engagement among participants.
The seminar drew an audience of approximately 100 attendees, including faculty members, students, and scholars, creating a dynamic academic environment. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Aprilly Timungpi, followed by the National Anthem. The proceedings were skillfully compered by Dr. Jesmine Ahmed.
This seminar stands as a tribute to the enduring spirit of the Indian Constitution and the university’s continued commitment to fostering constitutional literacy and civic awareness among its academic community.
