SIVASAGAR, June 4: Inaugurating a newly built homestay Aahana in Zenaganikatia, Sivasagar on Sunday, Sivasagar DDC Bitupon Neog said, “It is a good sign that more and more people are engaging themselves in one way or the other with the tourism sector of which Sivasagar has emerged as an important destination.”
He added that tourists want more homestay facilities than hotels and a taste of indigenous cuisine, touch of local culture and if possible, a breathtaking view of the Brahmaputra, and Sivasagar has all of these.
Madhav Das, district tourism officer said that the tourist inflow to Sivasagar has increased two hundred times in the last two years which is a matter of pride for the Sivasagar tourism sector.
“There has been an increase in the number of foreign tourists who have been giving excellent feedback on the place and its people.”
Manoj Kumar Borthakur, a journalist, said, “Kerala tourism has a global presence only because of a concerted effort of the government, the people, and the panchayats at the local level, which is yet to be developed in Assam.
Dr Amrit Tamuly, Binu Majumdar Baruah, and Dr Kahanindra Devagoswami in their speech lauded the effort of noted social worker Bharati Das Saikia for taking the initiative.
