KOKRAJHAR, June 17: In a significant move to curb vector-borne diseases and enhance regional public health cooperation, a joint malaria surveillance and prevention drive was conducted on Tuesday at Hatisar, a border village in Chirang district, as part of a cross-border initiative between India and Bhutan.
Spearheaded by the Chirang district administration, the programme witnessed active participation from health officials of Bhutan, reflecting the deepening synergy between the two neighbouring countries in the fight against malaria and other vector-borne diseases.
During the drive, health teams conducted fever surveillance to identify possible malaria infections at an early stage, ensuring timely medical intervention. In addition, Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) and blankets were distributed to residents as part of the preventive measures.
The distribution effort received generous support from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bongaigaon Refinery, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, underlining the growing role of public-private partnerships in boosting community health.
Officials from both sides commended the coordination and stressed the importance of sustained joint efforts to eliminate malaria from the border region. The programme reaffirmed the Indo-Bhutan commitment to collaborative disease surveillance, prevention, and promoting health equity across borders. Local residents expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers for the initiative, which drew an enthusiastic response from the community and helped raise awareness about malaria prevention in the region.
