KOKRAJHAR, Oct 19: The NDA alliance has inaugurated its Election Steering Committee office on Saturday in the Chirang district, marking a significant step in preparation for the upcoming bye-election in the 31 No Sidli Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC).
The event took place at Kashikotra, drawing a substantial gathering of supporters and leaders from the coalition partners, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal, along with UPPL president and Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Pramod Boro, officially inaugurated the office. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary and Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary, along with various leaders representing the NDA alliance parties.
The bye-election for Sidli LAC is scheduled for November 13 and comes on the heels of MLA Joyanta Basumatary’s resignation, following his successful election to the Lok Sabha in the June elections. This election is part of a larger electoral process across Assam, where bye-elections are also being conducted in Bongaigaon, Behali, Dholai, and Samaguri LACs, necessitated by the resignations of other MLAs who have been elected to Parliament.
During the inauguration, Minister Singhal expressed unwavering confidence in the NDA alliance’s ability to secure victories across all five LACs in the upcoming bye-elections. “The NDA alliance is committed to the all-round development of the state, and we are dedicated to delivering essential services to all communities,” he stated. Singhal emphasized the coalition’s focus on improving infrastructure and social services, which he believes will resonate with voters.
CEM Pramod Boro echoed Singhal’s sentiments, highlighting the broad-based support the UPPL candidate is receiving from various sections of society. He emphasized the unity between the BTR government and the Assam government in their efforts to provide services to the public since their inception.
“The BTR government is fully committed to the development of citizens and rendering services to all communities. I am confident that the UPPL candidate will win the Sidli LAC bye-election by a significant margin,” he added.
Boro also addressed concerns about the strength of the opposition, asserting that their influence among the citizens of Assam has diminished. “The united strength of the opposition has become irrelevant. The people have turned their backs on opposition parties, as they recognize the NDA alliance’s dedication to development and progress,” he said.
The NDA alliance partners are expected to announce their candidates for the bye-elections in the coming days, as the notification has already been published. The AGP will contest the Bongaigaon LAC, the UPPL will field a candidate in Sidli, and the BJP will run candidates in Behali, Samaguri, and Dholai LACs. The counting of votes is set for November 23, and the NDA alliance is fully mobilized, having developed strategies tailored to their respective constituencies.
In a key development, the Election Steering Committee has been formed, with Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary serving as chairman and Biswajit Barman as chief convenor. This committee consists of 66 members tasked with ensuring the smooth conduct of the bye-election in Sidli LAC.
Among those present at the inauguration were several MLAs, including Lawrence Islary and Ajoy Roy, along with BTR executive members Ranjit Basumatary, Nilut Swargiary, Wilson Hasda, Rakesh Brahma, and senior leaders from the UPPL, BJP, and AGP. The steering committee held its first meeting during the inauguration, where key strategies for the upcoming bye-elections were discussed.
As the NDA alliance gears up for the electoral battle, local leaders and supporters have expressed optimism about their chances, highlighting a growing sentiment of trust in the coalition’s ability to deliver on its promises and serve the interests of the constituents in Sidli LAC and beyond.
