NAGAON, Jan 5: The 22nd biennial session of the district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad concluded recently.
The session, which began on January 2, featured a colourful cultural procession in the Dakshinpat area, showcasing the state’s diverse cultures. The open session, presided over by Pragjyotish Bania.
Borgohain emphasised the need to protect Assam’s land and identity. Palash Changmai, the state president of the organisation also attended the event and inaugurated the open session in the afternoon here.
While addressing the occasion, Changmai welcomed the new law initiated by the state BJP led government to protect the land of Barduwa and Barpeta satra areas in the state, stating that the government banned the sale of land of those two satras areas to the people outside the state.
He asserted that the people from outside the state had already occupied almost 35 to 40 percent land in urban areas as well as 10 to 12 percent land in rural areas of the state. He said that only the ownership of land would secure the identity of the indigenous people of the state in the days to come.
During the session, a new executive committee for the Nagaon district unit, with Praval Sharma as president and Hemanta Das as general secretary was elected.
