GUWAHATI, July 26: In line with the objectives of the PM Gati Shakti framework, the railway authorities have issued a master circular on “Policy for Management of Railway Land,” which includes provisions for leasing railway land for cargo-related activities, public infrastructure, and railway exclusive use.

The circular, issued on 04.10.2022, allows railway land to be leased for cargo projects and facilities for up to 35 years through transparent methods of competitive bidding, with annual lease charges set at 1.5% of the market value of the land. This revised policy will facilitate the integrated development of infrastructure.

Under the jurisdiction of NF Railway, two Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminals have already been commissioned at Moinarband under Lumding division and Cinnamara under Tinsukia division on March 29 and August 5, 2022, respectively. Additionally, works are in progress for Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminals at Deotala, Balurghat, and Bathnaha under Katihar division, Basugaon under Alipurduar division, and Jogighopa and Baihata under Rangiya division. Further plans are underway for Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminals at Sairang (Mizoram), Sabroom, and Sekerkote (Tripura) under Lumding division.

The commissioning of these Gati Shakti Multi Cargo Terminals will accelerate cargo handling and transportation through roadways, waterways, and railways, making the process more efficient and cost-effective. The PM Gati Shakti initiative aims to streamline and simplify coordinated infrastructure projects, and the cargo terminals will play a crucial role in enhancing rail cargo movement and eliminating transportation bottlenecks, ultimately benefiting the last mile customer.
