JORHAT, March 18: Jorhat District Magistrate Pulak Mahanta, by an order issued under Section 144 CrPC, has prohibited the carrying of licensed arms in the district in view of the announcement of parliamentary elections.
The order stated that this measure is part of the security measures undertaken to conduct the polls in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. It comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until the declaration of poll results.
In another order passed under Section 144 CrPC, Mahanta has directed all gun-license holders in the district to deposit their arms at the respective police stations or with arms and ammunition dealers having proper licenses for the deposition of weapons by Monday.
The order mentioned that failing to comply with the directive will lead to the initiation of action under Section 188 of the IPC against those not following the order.
