Purandar Baruah conferred with ‘Yoga Ratna’ Award at Yogutsav 2025

NAGAON, June 18: The Yogutsav 2025, organised on the occasion of International Day of Yoga by the Department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, concluded successfully in Nagaon on Wednesday.

The event was held in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.

The programme commenced on Tuesday with a mass yoga session held at the Nagaon Police Reserve auditorium.

The session was attended by over 200 students from Nagaon town and conducted by Barasha Maske, Assistant Professor in the Department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy.

Among the dignitaries present were newly appointed Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Devashish Sarma, University Registrar Dr Sarat Hazarika, Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha General Secretary and University Coordinator Kushal Thakuria, Professor Boli Narayan Phukan, the founding Head of the department, Deputy Registrar (Academic) Dr Bichitra Bikash, faculty members, staff, and students.

Addressing the gathering, deputy commissioner Sarma lauded the initiative and highlighted the growing global emphasis on holistic health and wellness.

He remarked that a healthy mind builds a healthy body and praised the university for its efforts in promoting yoga education and awareness.

A national-level seminar was held in the afternoon at the university auditorium.

On the occasion, the book titled “Relevance of Yoga Education in the Present Scenario” was formally released.

The highlight of the event was the conferring of the prestigious Yoga Ratna award for 2025 to eminent educationist and Gitacharya Purandar Baruah.

The award was presented by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ashok Kumar Bora, along with other distinguished guests, according to an official press statement.
