NAGAON, Jan 8: The Nagaon Bhogali Bihu Festival, organised by Sadou Nagaon Bhogali Bihu Utsav Somittee, has entered its 112th year. This year’s celebrations promise to be more grand and inclusive, with several new events added to the festival’s lineup.
The festival will kick off on January 13 with the inauguration of handicrafts fair and exhibition by Rupak Sarma, working President of the Utsav Somittee and local MLA and will feature a range of events, including cultural performances, sports competitions, and traditional Assamese games.
This will be followed by a series of cultural events, including a nam-kirtan (devotional songs) session, a traditional Assamese community feast on occasion of ‘Uruka’ and a flag-hoisting ceremony.
The following days will feature a slew of events, including a cycle rally, a cultural procession, a painting competition, and traditional Assamese games and sports competitions.
Events such as boat racing competition, fishing and wrestling competition have been introduced in the festivities of this year.
The festival will also feature a slew of cultural performances, including traditional Assamese dances, music performances, and theater performances.
The festival will conclude on January 19 with a grand finale event, featuring a range of performances and the distribution of prizes among the winners of the various competitions.
The Sadou Nagaon Bhogali Bihu Utsav Somittee has also organised awareness programmes and exhibitions, including an exhibition on the theme of human-elephant conflict and a display of traditional Assamese tribal homes.
“We have organized a series of events and activities to make this year’s festival a memorable one,” said Rupak Sarma, the working president of the Bihu Utsav Somittee, appealing to the public to participate in the festival and make it a grand success.
